A modern twist on the classic battleship board game where players engage in turn-based naval warfare. But this time, in a table-top AR setting using platform called Tilt Five.
In the classic Battleship game, each player arranges their ships on the lower board and uses the vertical board in front of them to track guesses against their opponent’s fleet. Players take turns announcing target coordinates and communicate whether each guess is a “hit” or “miss” through verbal interaction.
The AR version demonstrated enhanced accessibility, enabling beginners to quickly understand the rules and mechanics of the game. In addition, the sensory-rich experience provided by visual and auditory feedback in AR games sustained player engagement throughout the session, regardless of their skill levels. These advantages highlight the potential of AR board games as an effective educational tool. Even novice players can rapidly learn the game rules without losing focus during the session. Moreover, the AR version's ability to foster interaction between the player and the game suggests that AR-enhanced educational experiences can promote quicker learning and sustained engagement throughout the learning process.
